Last summer, Noah asked what I wanted to do for my birthday and I told him I was craving some cozy and relaxing time in the mountains. A little Airbnb vetting later and we found exactly what we were looking for – a sweet little a-frame cabin tucked away in Big Bear.
The cabin had everything we were looking for – a fully stocked kitchen, BBQ, adorable patio, fireplace, and the classic floor to ceiling windows to let ALL the light pour in.
Every detail of the cabin was so thoughtfully curated and we felt so welcomed in the space! We picked-up groceries in the village and snuggled in for our first night. When I woke up in the morning it was like a dream, Sinatra on vinyl was floating from downstairs and Noah had gotten up early to make us breakfast.
We spent our day reading, relaxing, and wandered outside for the afternoon to walk around the lake. We could see large thunderheads slowly rolling their way in and made it back to the car just as the first rain drops started to fall. We cozied up inside and read as the summer storm made it’s way in. We kept the windows open so we could listen to the rain and a soft, late summer breeze filled the cabin.
We barbequed on the front patio between cloud breaks and I pulled a chair out to read and relax as Noah grilled our steaks. This moment, it was perfect. Hearing the forest come alive after a rain and spending time with Noah and a good book IS my definition of perfect.
We had a hearty dinner for two and I pulled out some new records to listen to that we had thrifted in town earlier that day. Noah played guitar after dinner and we finished the night with some of the games stocked in the cabin.
My sister and her two favorites came to join us for breakfast early the next morning. While Lira is adorable, no dogs are allowed inside the cabin to be courteous of those with allergies, so she waited (not so patiently) on the patio.

We checked out a little early and headed into the back country to hike and watch the climbers. Another thunderstorm rolled in and it was the most peaceful and perfect weekend – full of adventure, just how it should be.
